About Me

Thank you for visiting my website, and for taking the time to read my profile! I am a therapist, consultant, and speaker driven to help others build lives that are more vital, satisfying, and rewarding. I have worked to learn a wide variety of psychological and interpersonal skills to improve my own life, and I thoroughly enjoy the chance to share these skills with others.

First, allow me to tell you about my training. I am a licensed psychologist with training in research-based psychological interventions. I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I focused on cognitive-behavioral therapy for individuals and couples. I also began my training in DBT in graduate school. In 2008, I completed my internship at Counseling and Wellness Services at UNC Chapel Hill and began private practice. In 2011, I completed the DBT Intensive Training with a team of DBT therapists in the Triangle area, and I have provided training to other DBT therapists through workshops and training teams. I have also found the ACT model to be quite effective with graduates of DBT and with others who are finding it difficult to build their lives in accord with their values.

In addition to practicing as a therapist, I have been involved in the administration of a large mental health practice and a small dental practice. In both contexts, I have focused on developing systems that work well through the application of important psychological principles. For example, there is a great deal of research on what motivates employees and co-workers and how important working relationships are for our well-being. In my consulting role, I am available to individuals who wish to improve their interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and productivity in the professional context.

I have been training in To-Shin Do martial arts since 2004, and I am a Yondan (fourth-degree black belt). The To-Shin Do martial arts system has been another context in which I have learned greater mindfulness and greater flexibility in how I respond to challenging situations. I strongly support the integration of martial arts training into the recovery plan for survivors of abuse or trauma.
